Shaan has once again appealed to Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar and Prime Minister Imran Khan to make “people’s wellness” a priority.
In a tweet addressed to CM Buzdar, Shaan asked why the completion of the Firdous Market underpass has been delayed.
“The Gulberg Firdous Market underpass is long-delayed and the bridge that connects DHA to Gulberg has been closed and people’s lives are in sheer misery,” said the actor.
“Pollution [and] traffic jams have made life difficult,” he continued, demanding an answer for the delay.

In a follow-up tweet, Shaan said: “People’s wellness should also be a priority amongst all other priorities. Our hope was our priority so we chose our hope at the time of the elections but I hope we are your priority as well.”
According to the Focal Person to CM Punjab on Digital Media Azhar Mashwani, the underpass was expected to be complete on September 6. However, till the filing of this report, the underpass has not yet been opened for the public.
Meanwhile, latest reports have stated that the Firdous Market Underpass Project (FMUP), named Lal Shahbaz Qalandar Underpass, is all set to be completed during the current week.
The completion of construction work, carried out by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), was delayed by three months as the project was supposed to be completed in August within 90 days after its start on May 19. The project was earlier estimated to be completed in four months, however, the LDA had been directed by CM Buzdar to complete its construction within 90 days.
Later, on a visit to the project site, the Punjab CM had removed the project chief engineer and also issued show-cause notices to the LDA director general (DG) and additional DG over the slow pace of work.
As per APP, the 540-meter long two-lane dual carriageway underpass would facilitate traffic from the adjoining areas, with special arrangements for water disposal. The project, for which around seven canals were acquired, would benefit more than 91,000 vehicles daily and save fuel worth millions of rupees annually.
The project was estimated to cost Rs1.76 billion, including land acquisition and construction. However, the Punjab government awarded the construction contract for Rs960 million, saving Rs130 million.
