The best part about 2022 was witnessing the rise of Shae Gill.

2022 could be best regarded as the year Pakistani music went global, with singer Arooj Aftab winning a Grammy for her song ‘Mohabbat’, then Ms. Marvel debuting on Disney Plus while showcasing Pakistani singers like Eva B, Hassan and Roshaan and then Coke Studio happened. But perhaps in all of this, Shae Gill becoming the absolute queen she was always going to be, was the brightest spot of the year. Singer Sajjad Ali calls out Bollywood for plagiarizing his song ‘Ab Ke Hum Bichere’

It seems as though Bollywood’s tendency to plagiarize Pakistani music hasn’t ended. This time, it was singer Sajjad Ali who called out Bollywood for plagiarizing his song ‘Ab Ke Hum Bicharay’. Yesterday, the singer uploaded a video on Instagram, where he says he was listening to songs from an upcoming movie and realized that the melody resembled a song he had written years ago. He did not name drop the Bollywood song directly, but left it for his followers to interpret. ‘Stop murdering Urdu language’: Arslan Naseer lashes out at Bollywood over Besharam Rang’s lyrics

Actor Arslan Naseer took to his social media handles to express his disappointment over the Urdu lyrics used in the Bollywood film Pathaan ‘s song Besharam Rang . genuinely upset when he heard the song  Besharam Rang  and pointed out that a word had been both misspelled and mispronounced. The  Chupke Chupke  actor tweeted against the Urdu language being wasted in Hindi songs. The film The Legend of Maula Jatt has become the highest grossing film in Pakistan, breaking all records by making more than $10 million globally. Film star Mahira Khan. who starred as Mukho in the film, spoke to Variety along with director Bilal Lashari. Maula Jatt release in India indefinitely delayed

Indian Board advises SRK movie ‘Pathaan’ to implement changes in song ‘Besharam Rang’

The song ‘Besharam Rang’ (roughly translates to shameless colour) from the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan movie ‘Pathaan’ has garnered controversy since its release. Now India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has advised the makers of the film to implement changes to the song. Since the song’s release, costumes worn in the music video have been the subject of criticism, with certain Hindu clerics stating that the lyrics are an insult to their religion. Narottam Mishra, a minister from the state of Madhya Pradesh, held a press conference on December 14 about the costumes in the music video, calling them insulting to Hindu practices, and warned the makers of the movie that ‘Pathaan’ would be banned in the state on its release. ‘Pathaan’ was submitted by Yash Raj Film to the CBFC for a certification prior to being shown in cinemas. After making her debut with the chart-topping global hit  Pasoori, S hae Gill dropped a musical collaboration with songwriter-singer duo Hassan and Roshaan from Lahore.  Titled  Sukoon , it has become a hit amongst music fans transnationally. While some netizens had issues with the subtle hints of queerness in the video, the majority of users wrote about how peaceful and melancholic vibes the song gives. FIA sets eye on YouTuber for allegedly leaking Aamir Liauqat’s private videos

The Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to call the Lahore-based YouTuber who is accused of leaking compromising footage of the late televangelist Aamir Liaquat, SAMAA has reported. The YouTuber will reportedly be asked about the source of the related videos. According to report, Fazeel, the suspect, was reportedly Liaquat’s personal secretary and the guardian of all of his video archives.
