Akshay Kumar is at the receiving end of backlash and outrage after he walked 21 km on a treadmill to “feel the plight of rural women who have to travel long distances to fetch water”.
Akshay performed this ‘stunt’ on live television while hosting the Mission Paani Waterthon to raise awareness about the water crisis in India.
Speaking at the occasion, Kumar said that while running for a half marathon, athletes are given water at every juncture, but these women are not and that we need to understand the difficulties faced by these hardworking women.
Akshay’s gesture however, did not sit well with social media, who have criticised the actor for his ‘stunt’.
