Kangana Ranaut is all set to essay former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in an upcoming political drama.
Announcing the news on social media, the actor shared that the film will be directed by her “dear friend” Sai Kabir and produced under the banner of Manikarnika Films.
Confirming the development, Ranaut, in a statement, said the film will not be a biopic but will instead cover significant moments of Indian political history including Operation Blue Star and The Emergency.
“Yes, we are working on the project, and the script is in the final stages,” read the statement. “It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India.”
The actor further revealed that the film will be based on a book and several prominent actors will be part of it.
Kangana further said that she is “looking forward to playing the most iconic leader that we have had in the history of Indian politics.”
