Singer Britney Spears is free from her conservatorship, which had been in place for nearly 14 years.
It has been lifted by a judge in the United States. Britney marked the day as “best day ever.”
“I love my fans so much it’s crazy!I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day, Best day ever,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
“Effective today, the conservatorship of the person and the estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated,” Judge Brenda Penny said in announcing her decision. The conservatorship has governed her personal life and $60 million estate since 2008.
Spears began behaving erratically in 2007 after her divorce from Kevin Federline was finalized and she lost the custody of their two children.
A series of public incidents raised concern about her mental health, with the star making headlines for shaving her head and hitting a photographer’s car with an umbrella. After a series of such incidents, she was put under a temporary psychiatric hold in Los Angeles in 2008.
